If you haven’t already realized this, life is hard. There are many obstacles and many battles that you will have to fight during your lifetime. You will have to deal with everything from sickness to relationship problems to feelings of low self esteem.
One of the greatest and most important fights that you will have to endure is one with your greatest enemy, and that is fear.
Fear is a formidable foe that stares you in the face and dares you to try and do and/or be something different. Think of fear like you would a venomous snake that strikes at you, latches on, and pumps its paralyzing venom into your veins.
As the venom courses through your body you are unable to move. That is exactly what fear does. It holds your life
hostage keeping you from moving or going forward. Let’s take a look at Charles as an example. Charles is bright and extremely talented tech officiando. He has been working for a company that he feels doesn’t value his talent, and doesn’t pay him what he is worth. He has been told many times by several different people that he should start his own computer and electronics repair service, but he doesn’t know.
He wants to strike out and do something different but he is afraid of failing. He is afraid to give up a job that offers decent pay especially in this economy even though he is miserable day after day. So each year that goes by he wishes for something different but in the end his fear keeps him boxed in.
Is your life similar to Charles? Do you feel trapped between where you want to go and where you are? Are you afraid of failing? If so, don’t let your life waste away thinking about all the “shoulda-coulda-woulda’s.” You need to muster up all the courage you can, fight your fear, and win.
In order to fight your fear, you must first come to terms with what you are actually afraid of. Are you afraid of winning? Are you afraid of failing? Are you afraid of what other people will think of you? Are you afraid that you’re not good enough?
Once you have diagnosed what frightens you, you need to then identify all of the things that you fear is stopping you from being and/or doing.
For many people fear is keeping them from starting their own business, from going after a promotion, from finding the perfect soul mate, etc. When you make an honest list of fear is keeping you from you will be surprised at how much you are missing out on.
The next step is to then compile a list of all the assets you have in your life. Now we are not just talking about financial assets, we are talking about your talents, abilities, skills, your personality, and so on.
Hopefully when doing this, you will find that this is long and substantial list. You have more strength and power inside of you then you know. And it is up to you to harness that strength and power and use it as a weapon against your fear.
As you begin to see the greatness that is inside of you, you can then see that there was never any reason for you to be afraid in the first place.
